Google Readiness Report
How well are Swiss companies prepared for the market launch of Google for Jobs 1 Google Job Search Experience?
1 Although the term “Google for Jobs” is widely used, it’s not the official name used by Google; it’s “Job Search Experience”. Furthermore, Google doesn’t refer to this as a product, but as a service with the aim of simplifying job searches on Google.
Study design
Google’s “Job Search Experience” is important for all companies with job vacancies. Google places those job advertisements on the first positions of the search results which fit best – similar to Google’s “normal ranking”.
Update
On 10 September 2019, the Job Search Experience was rolled out in Switzerland under the name Job Function.
The question now is: How well are Swiss companies prepared for this?
The following categories were created for the study with regard to company selection: At random, 100 companies were selected for each category…
- …over 60 vacancies
- …40-60 vacancies
- …10-40 vacancies
- …5-10 vacancies
This corresponds to a number of almost 400 companies examined. They were examined to see whether they meet Google’s basic criteria for the Job Search Experience.
The data is the result of a survey conducted by experts at jobchannel ag, as of 29.08.2019. Here you will find all employers (DE) selected for the study.
Criteria
The study is based on seven criteria that at least must be fulfilled for a job ad to appear in Google’s Job Search Experience. The study examined whether a company complies with one or more of the seven criteria:
- individual job details page available for each job advertisement
- JobPosting Markup detected
- job title available
- date of publication recognized
- job description available
- employer available
- work location recognized
Criterion 1 : Job detail page
Google requires one subpage per job advertised, which contains all relevant data of the advertised job (job title, publication date, job description, employer, work location, etc.)
Criterion 2: JobPosting markup
Because of the “JobPosting Markup” Google recognizes whether it’s a job advertisement or not. To be listed, Google must recognize the job ad. This is only the case with 26% of the examined enterprises and their job advertisements.
Property 3: Job title
Google requires a precise and readable job title for the corresponding position. This is only available at 25% of the companies with job advertisements.
Criterion 4: Date of publication
Google Job Search Experience requires the explicit mention of the publication date. In the course of the study, a publication date was identified in 23%.
Criterion 5: Job description
A job description is another criterion for appearing on Google Job Search Experience. In this respect, only 26% of companies have added the said description.
Criterion 6: Employer
Most people don’t want to work for just any employer, but would rather work for a company that suits them. Even with this property, only 23% of the companies surveyed mention the employer by name.
Criterion 7: Work location
Live right next to your place of work, no commuting and no traffic jams! That’s why Google’s place of work is also desired. A reference to the place of work was recognized by 23% of the companies.
Conclusion
It is easy to see from the data obtained in the study that the majority of employers do not take advantage of the opportunity to be found quickly and easily by job seekers.
Rather larger companies – with 30 or more vacancies – are heading in the right direction, but even in this category not all companies comply with all the requirements.
Smaller companies – between 5 and 30 vacancies – don’t take full advantage of the Google Job Search Experience.
It is noticeable that about 3/4 of all companies comply with the first criterion only.
Only 21% of the companies comply with all properties, and therefore they’re ready for the Google Job Search Experience.
