1 Although the term “Google for Jobs” is widely used, it’s not the official name used by Google; it’s “Job Search Experience”. Furthermore, Google does not refer to this as a product, but as a service with the aim of simplifying job searches on Google.
What is Google Job Search Experience?
The feature cannot be compared to a conventional job platform. You cannot simply publish your job ads on Google. Instead, it is a service from Google with the aim of simplifying job search on Google.

Update
The new service was launched in Switzerland on 10 September 2019. jobchannel is a proud partner of Google due to its extensive know-how and ideal technical requirements.
So far
Google had officially published on May 22 2019 via Twitter what many had long been awaiting. Google’s job feature was officially launched in our neighbouring countries Germany and France as well as in the Netherlands.
Google Job Search Experience has been available in the United States since 20 June 2017. Since then the concept has been rolled out continuously. A list of available regions can be found on the official Google website.
How can you prepare for this?
To appear in Google’s Job Search Experience, several factors must be met:
- Job ads must be available online (on your own career website or a third party job site or both)
- Job ads must be provided with the JobPosting Markup
- One and the same job ad may only be listed once per website (duplicates must be marked with a canonical tag)
- Job ads must be removed as soon as the position is filled, otherwise a penalty is risked
- All job ads must be submitted to Google – via Sitemap (XML) and / or Indexing API
How should job ads be designed?
In order for Google to be able to use the job ads in a value-added way, they must be well-designed:
- Don’t use empty phrases, but short and concise wording. Make sure that the structure is meaningful and can be enriched with listings.
- Use a meaningful job title that appeals to the right target group.
- Do not create “fake ads” or ads with misleading content.
- When creating the job ad, also think of mobile device users.
- General SEO guidelines should be followed.
Conclusion and prospects
The new Google function has been available in Switzerland since 10 September 2019. The case study (German) which Google published in cooperation with jobchannel for the launch shows: jobseekers who opened a job ad via the job function clicked 5 times more on “Apply now”.
Companies should therefore prepare themselves for the Google innovation:
- Optimization of their own career website
- Publish job ads with “Google-Ready” providers (e.g. jobchannel ag)
